Re: Implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Dear Sir/Madam:

March 11, 2011 marks the first anniversary of Canada’s ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which reaffirms that persons with disabilities enjoy the protection of all human rights. Following community consultations, the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) and the Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL) have developed a Call to Action, “UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Making Domestic Implementation Real and Meaningful”, which has the support of more than 100 disability community organizations.

We are very pleased to share with you the aforementioned document, which summarizes the disability community’s expectations on how the CRPD could be implemented in Canada.

If you would be interested in discussing any aspect of this paper, Mr. Vangelis Nikias, a CCD staff person, would be prepared to meet with you at your convenience. Mr. Nikias’s contact information is: Email: vangelis@ccdonline.ca and Tel: 613-738-8881.

Sincerely,

Tony Dolan, CCD Chairperson

 Bendina Miller, CACL President
