Dear Friends and Colleagues:
As many of you know, on December 6, 2024, Canada lost one of its leading disability rights advocates, Laurie Beachell. Laurie served as CCD’s National Coordinator from 1984 to 2015. During this time, he worked tirelessly with the community on numerous projects to improve the daily lives of persons with disabilities, which he often described as making progress by “centimetres”. Despite this sometimes slow progress, Laurie was a relentless force in ensuring that persons with disabilities had a seat at decision-making tables and in establishing CCD as a leading disability rights organization which argued for justice in both boardrooms and courtrooms.
All are invited to attend the celebration of life for Laurie. There will be a brief opportunity for participants to pay tribute to Laurie. As time is limited, we ask that you keep your comments to two minutes or less. If you wish to attend, please RSVP by emailing april@ccdonline.ca. To help us plan, please let us know if you will be attending by zoom or in-person. The zoom link will be sent out a few days before the celebration. Also please let us know if you intend to say a few words.
