Canada Disability Benefit

As you may know, we launched the Canada Disability Benefit Regulations Online Engagement Tool on November 15, 2023, to give Canadians, but especially Canadians with disabilities, the opportunity to have their say in the development of the Canada Disability Benefit regulations. I am pleased to inform you that we have extended the deadline of the engagement tool for two additional weeks.

The online engagement tool, which was originally slated to close on December 21, 2023, is now open until January 4, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. I am reaching out for your assistance in getting the word out to your clients, organization, and contacts that the deadline has been extended.

We appreciate your ongoing support to help us reach a diversity of persons with disabilities, caregivers of persons with disabilities, and Canadians to hear their perspectives on the Benefit regulations. With your support, we have already heard from over 2700 Canadians.

The engagement tool is accessible and available in American Sign Language and Langue des signes québécoise. By request, it is available in Word, large print, braille, MP3 (audio), e-text and DAISY formats.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office for Disability Issues at CDB@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sad ALACD Announcement

Today I am writing with sad news. Jane Arkell, Executive Director, of the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability (ALACD) passed away on December 27th.

Jane was the Executive Director of the Alliance from its inception in 1989. Jane dedicated her career to access and the inclusion of people with disabilities, with a focus on physical activity, recreation, and sport. Jane firmly believed that leading a physically active life had a profound impact on a person’s physical, mental, and spiritual health. In turn, these benefits lead to greater social inclusion, employment readiness, and reduced loneliness. Throughout her career, Jane was a tremendous champion of these beliefs. Jane impacted the lives of countless people with disabilities, as well as people she mentored or met professionally.

I am sure those of you, like me, who knew Jane professionally and personally, will feel you have lost a valued colleague and dear friend.

Our thoughts at this time are with Jane’s family.

Jane, rest in peace.
