This is training for persons with disabilities by persons with disabilities. The training is part of a project funded by Employment and Social Development Canada and implemented by the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) in collaboration with Canadian Multicultural Disability Centre Inc. News on the Canadian Dental Care Plan
We are excited to share news about the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and the availability of new products.
As you may be aware, the Government of Canada launched the CDCP to help make the cost of oral health care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents.
Application Status
Applications for eligible seniors (ages 65 years and over), adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate (T2201), and children under 18 are now open on canada.ca/dental. All remaining eligible Canadian residents will be able to apply in 2025.
We encourage Canadians to apply online. If they can’t apply online, they may apply by phone by calling 1-833-537-4342. For TTY, call 1-833-677-6262. Applicants can also call these numbers to request alternative formats such as large print, Braille, E-Text, audio/video, and DAISY.
Canadians who applied can verify the status of their application via the Canadian Dental Care Plan Online Status Checker.
Multilingual Factsheet
Great news! General information on the CDCP is now available in 12 different languages: Arabic, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Michif Cree, Portuguese, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog, and Ukrainian. These fact sheets are available in our CDCP Stakeholder Toolkit under the folder Multilingual factsheets and ready to be shared and used within your community.
In addition, we have revised the content on Canada.ca/dental to make it easier for the public to understand the CDCP, adding examples of additional charges CDCP clients may have to pay, even if they do not have any co-payment.
Provider Participation
Also, as of July 8, CDCP clients can now see the oral health provider of their choice, as long as their provider agrees to bill Sun Life directly and accept payment. This means that any oral health provider can now provide care to CDCP clients, whether they formally sign up or choose to participate on a claim-by-claim basis. Provider participation continues to be on voluntary basis. CDCP members can find a provider by using the CDCP Provider Search tool, by calling Sun Life at 1-888-888-8110 or by calling providers in their community. CDCP clients must ensure that their coverage is in effect before they book an appointment with a provider. Their coverage effective date is included on their welcome letter and not on their CDCP member card.
If you have any questions, you can reach us at DentalOutreach-sensibilisationdentaire@hc-sc.gc.ca. We look forward to working with you to ensure that every eligible Canadian resident gets to access quality oral health care.
